Remarks: 9-10 quilting stitches per inch. The quilt top has 13 vertical, 5" wide strips of white muslin appliqued with rhythmically undulating vines of a green printed cotton with leaves pieced of many different printed cottons: florals, plaids, stripes, solids. These pieced fabrics make up a veritable encyclopedia of inexpensive printed cotton calicos of the mid 19th century. The strips are divided by 12, 1.25" strips of a pink seaweed or parsley print with a 2" border of the same on all sides. The edges are turned in and hand sewn. The vines and leaves are outline or self quilted. There are rows of diamonds in the pink divider stripes and border. The pattern is a one of a kind, unique design. The leaves, of differently colored and patterned cottons appear on other McCord quilts (see the Floral Urn Quilt). Back is plain muslin. Green cotton forming stems was once patterned but has faded. Leaves are not strip pieced. Applique has been done by two hands.
